Prestigious Mid 19th Century Stucco Townhouse, Knightsbridge
This project was a carefully managed heritage restoration on a prominent period building in Montpelier Square,
We were appointed to undertake DOFF superheated steam cleaning, a specialist and conservation-approved method used to remove decades of pollution and biological build-up while preserving the integrity of the original brickwork. This process is often a requirement on historic façades to maintain both appearance and material health.
Once the building was cleaned, ADDA carried out extensive stucco, render and timber window repairs, addressing defects that had been hidden beneath years of surface grime. As is often the case with heritage buildings, the cleaning process revealed numerous historic repairs that had been carried out incorrectly — using inappropriate materials, poor detailing, or finishes inconsistent with the period of the building.
Our role was to undo and correct many of these interventions, reinstating details using traditional techniques and historically appropriate materials. All repairs were carefully matched in profile, texture and finish, ensuring they sit naturally within the original façade and will not be visually recognisable over time.
By employing heritage methods and breathable, conservation-approved materials, we are able to guarantee our repairs for many years, giving the client confidence in both the durability and authenticity of the work.
The final result is a façade that is clean, cohesive and historically correct but still showing some historic repairs to brickwork that may have happened as a result of the war.
